Earle Brown, Calder Piece (1963-1966)
For four percussionists and mobile
Four of France’s most esteemed percussionists are joining forces inside the Fondation Auditorium to offer audiences a rare immersive experience.
Over the course of a weekend, in parallel with the Calder Rêver en équilibre exhibition, Adélaïde Ferrière, Vanessa Porter, Emmanuel Jacquet and Rodolphe Théry will perform Earle Brown’s Calder Piece (1963-1966) multiple times on each of the two days. With Calder’s express permission, Mr Brown has the percussionists take turns setting aside their instruments to play and improvise “on” Calder’s 1964 metal sculpture Chef d’orchestre, placed at the space’s centre, thereby creating a symbolic continuum between visual and sound art.
